When it comes to
volunteering, the possibilities can go on forever. VolunteerLEON Youth Corps address many
issues through community service projects; however, in order for us to establish
partnerships with other community organizations, VolunteerLEON Youth Corps
concentrate on:
HIV/AIDS
Environment
Animals
Disaster & Disabilities
School Improvement
Understanding Intergenerational Concerns
Prevention
| HIV/AIDS
AIDS is caused by an infection with a
virus called human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This virus is passed from one
person to another through blood-to-blood contact and sexual intercourse.
Because so many people can be affected by this deadly disease, Youth Corps
members want to play a part in educating other youth about ways to avoid
infection.

Environmental There are many things youth can do to help
protect and preserve the environment, you can: 1) introduce a Save the
Environment Campaign, 2) Clean parks & gardens, 3) Make small changes in your
daily habits that will have a positive impact on the natural world, for example,
dont litter! 4) Volunteer your time.

Animals
Devote some of your
time to help the lives of animals. Animals are very dear to our hearts, and it
saddens us whenever we learn of any cruelty, exploitation, and abuse toward
them. We want to help them as much as we can!

|
Disaster
Disaster services volunteers are on the scene of
both natural and man-made disasters providing emergency assistance in a variety
of ways to families who have been temporarily or permanently displaced from
their homes.

School
Improvement Whether its tutoring kids
or beautifying the school grounds, there is much work to be done in the area of
school improvement. Most schools have a school improvement plan and teens can
find out how they can volunteer their time to help make a difference.

Understanding
Intergenerational Concerns Intergenerational programs are activities that
increase cooperation, interaction, or exchange between any two generations.
These programs purposefully bring together people of different age groups in
ongoing, mutually beneficial, planned activities, designed to achieve successful
goals. Intergenerational programs provide children, youth and older adults an
opportunity to volunteer while contributing meaningfully to society.
|
|
Prevention - Prevention is the process which
provides people with the resources necessary to confront stressful life
conditions and avoid behaviors which could result in negative, physical,
psychological, or social outcomes. Teens are a VOICE and can tackle these
concerns through their volunteer efforts in the community.
