An initiative
developed to connect faith-based and grassroots organizations
with sustainable resources that enhance volunteer
program effectiveness, as well as foster the development of community
partnerships.
What does InterFACE stand for?
Faith-based
And
Community
Engagement
Why was Project InterFACE proposed? America is faced with rising poverty and a
staggering array of social problems and not enough government
resources to overcome them. This is not just government’s
job. It’s everyone’s job. Faith is a powerful force in our
society and faith-based organizations are at the
forefront. Project InterFACE is a realistic approach to supporting
faith-based organizations- providing practical resources,
training that can be used by all volunteers, and connections
to other nonprofits, businesses and government agencies in the
community. Although it is being developed to meet the needs
of faith-based organizations here in Leon County, it is a
“typically” American solution.
Who manages Project
InterFACE?
Project InterFACE is a program of VolunteerLEON, a department
of the Leon County Board of County Commissioners. It is
funded (in part) by the Points of Light Foundation and Leon
County BCC. Former President George Bush founded the Points
of Light Foundation in 1990. Points of Light is a national,
nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works in partnership
with VolunteerLEON to help mobilize people and resources to
find creative solutions to community problems. Two AmeriCorps
VISTA staff, with backgrounds in marketing, volunteer
management, religion, public administration, information
services and social science, will work with the program on a
full time basis. VolunteerLEON’s director, volunteer
coordinator, program specialist and youth coordinator will
offer consultation and technical support. A Leadership Council
will be established to represent the faith, business,
nonprofit and government communities.
What does it cost to participate?
The program is free to all participants. It is hoped that if
an organization has sufficient resources, office supplies,
computer equipment, and copying capability to be used for
Project InterFACE activities and events that they will do so.
Who is eligible to participate? Any
organization that has a faith inspired interest in providing
services to the needy can participate in Project InterFACE.
