Area Citizens Corps
Enables all sectors of the
community involved in first responder issues to establish
ongoing, working relationships that are strong in a time of
crisis. Helps citizens and organizations to take a more active
role in crime prevention, supporting the medical community,
and becoming better trained in emergency preparedness and
disaster response activities. Provides citizens living in
communities throughout Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon,
Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla Counties in north
Florida an organized way of volunteering to help prepare
individuals, families, neighborhoods, schools and businesses
for the next disaster or emergency. A partnership of Capital
Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, FSU Center for Civic
Education, and VolunteerLEON.

Connects potential

County Government Internship and
Service Learning Program
Coordinate semester-long internships and
service learning opportunities with Leon County Government
departments, enabling local college students to acquire practical
work experience in the public sector. View

County Library Volunteer Program
Provide recruitment, conduct interviews, and identify
placements for adult and youth volunteers wanting to volunteer
within the County
library system. Also maintain volunteers' record of
service, formally recognize volunteer contribution to the
County several times a year, and provide professional
development for library volunteer supervisors on volunteer
management.

Coordinator
Serve as the point
of contact for program and membership information for the only
professional organization of its kind in the Big Bend area.
DOVA is resource for volunteer managers and offers individuals
and agencies the opportunity to network with similar
professionals; attend monthly "lunch and learn"
meetings and quarterly workshops, and advocate for volunteer
issues. More

Disaster
Planning and Response Designee as the lead agency for
Emergency Service Function 15 (Volunteers and Donations)
within the Leon
County Department of Emergency Management and serve as their liaison
to the State’s Emergency Operating Center. In case of a
disaster adversely impacting the Big Bend area, VolunteerLEON,
the Leon County Emergency Operating
Center, Capitol Area Chapter of the Red Cross, and FSU
Center for Civic Education and Service will set up and manage a Volunteer
Reception Center to coordinate the use of unaffiliated volunteers helping
in the community.
Leon County Mentoring Initiative
Refer potential volunteers to youth-serving programs as mentors throughout the Big
Bend area, in
cooperation with the Governor’s Mentoring
Initiative.
National
Volunteer Week and National Days of Service Coordination
Initiate and partner with other agencies on various projects
organized to commemorate
National Days of Service
such as
Dr. M.L. King, Jr. Day of Service, National Youth Service
Day, Join Hands Day,
One
Day's Pay,
National
Gandhi Day of Service,
Make
A Difference Day,
and National
Family Volunteer Day.

Nonprofit Internship
Program
Provide a referral program for community based and
governmental organizations seeking college students for

Project LEAD
(Leon
Employees Are Dedicated to Volunteer
Service)
Coordinate Leon County’s
internal employee volunteer program, whereby employees are allowed
up to 4 hours of administrative leave a month to volunteer at community-based organizations.
Project InterFACE (Faith-based And Community Engagement)
Developed to assist and train
faith-based and grassroots organizations in ways to sustain
and expand their volunteer programs, as well as foster the
development of community partnerships.
Resource Library
Maintain an in-house lending library and loan volunteer management resources
to organizational members of the Center.
Service Learning Network of the
Big Bend
Coordinate a coalition of
individuals and organizations (nonprofit, K-12, government,
and higher ed) working together to advance service-learning in
our community.

Connect
students and citizens to volunteer opportunities throughout the
Big Bend Area via the
Volunteer
Connection, an interactive
website which allows volunteers to browse and select volunteer opportunities;
member agencies of VolunteerLEON
can update their own information, use the online community
calendar and link their agencies to our website. Partnership of FSU Center for Civic

Volunteer Management Training Series
Present
in partnership with Tallahassee Community College each Spring,
the Volunteer Management Training Series (VMTS), a high
quality and comprehensive course in volunteer management
designed to be delivered to community organizations and
volunteer managers by local Volunteer Centers. The
curriculum, developed by the Points of Light Foundation, is
based on research and effective practices in volunteer
management. The primary goal of VMTS is to enable
organizations in the Big Bend area to mobilize and manage
volunteer resources for the greatest possible impact on their
specific causes and needs. Upon completion of this course,
participants receive the Florida Volunteer Administration
Certificate.
Volunteer
Promotion & Recognition
Collaborate with public agencies, non-profit organizations and
private businesses to
draw attention to the impact volunteers make on our community.
Promote special
projects and events held by community based organizations and
their partners. Work with state (Volunteer Florida),
national (Points of Light Foundation), and international
(Association for Volunteer Administration International) on
advocacy surrounding volunteerism. Serve on the Tallahassee Democrat’s
Volunteer Recognition Steering Committee which recognizes
hundreds of volunteers at our community's annual Volunteer of the
Year awards luncheon. Coordinate the "Street of Service,"
a
volunteer recognition and recruitment fair which takes place annually
during the Spring. The event exposes the community to
a myriad of ways in which they can become involved and applauds the thousands of volunteers who contribute to the
betterment of Leon County.

releases, in feature articles in the Tallahassee Democrat, and
through our on-line matching system the

VolunteerLEON Youth Corps
Coordinate a youth leadership,
service learning, and civic engagement organization for youth ages
12 to 18 . Youth select,
coordinate and participate in community service projects
throughout the year. Individual placements to community based
agencies for scholarship hours or work experience are also
