Major Objectives: |
To serve in an assisting
capacity to the Youth Corps Coordinator, assist in developing Youth
Corps chapters in the middle and high schools in Leon County, and assist
in promoting service-learning. |
|
Responsibilities: |
The intern will be directly involved in the Youth
Corps program. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to
the following: recruit youth volunteers, coordinate meetings for Youth
Corps, prepare written materials and correspondence, prepare
presentation folders and boards for display tables, document community
service activities and events, recruit teen volunteers, track youth
service hours, basic office duties such as filing, copying, answering
phones, taking messages, assist with the planning of local and national
service days, and other responsibilities related to the sustainability
of VolunteerLEON’s Youth Corps. NOTE: A special project can be
assigned if needed for class credit. |

Qualifications: |
The student should have
sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student status in any major.
Student should be community service-minded, possess strong
communication, organizational, presentation and leadership skills,
ability to meet new people, multi-tasked, ability to motivate others and
work as a team player, knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet
research, good detail and follow-up skills, ability to relate to young
people, and desire to expand knowledge and gain experience while having
fun and making a difference in the process. |
Time
and Place: |
Hours and days are flexible and will be worked out
according to the student’s academic schedule. Some weekend work may be
required. |
Commitment: |
One semester at 10 hours a
week. |
