Amid the outdoor gallery at the Tallahassee Chain of Parks
Art Festival, citizens got exposure to a variety of volunteer
opportunities available in the Big Bend Area. This year's Street
of Service was held in conjunction with the art festival, complete with
the theme, Volunteers Color the World.
"We developed the Street of Service three years ago to give
citizens the opportunity to put faces with the names of organizations that need volunteers," said Leon County Volunteer Center Director Jeri Bush. "Now, more than ever, we are
keenly aware of the vital role everyday people play in making a
difference in our communities." |

More than 30 civic and service organizations were at the
Street of Service. This year's event is the result of a collaborative
effort by the Leon County Volunteer Center , the Directors of Volunteers Association and the
Community Classroom Consortium.
The Volunteer Center serves as a clearinghouse for matching area volunteers
with organizations that need them. A database containing volunteer
opportunities in Franklin , Gadsden , Jefferson , Leon , Liberty , Madison, Taylor and Wakulla counties is available
online at the Volunteer
Connection.
Directors of Volunteers Association promotes the professional
development of managers of volunteers and the effective use of
volunteers in our community. Community Classroom Consortium is a
coalition of cultural, natural history, scientific and civic materials
to the public-especially youth.
