National Family Volunteer Day -
time together, time to act
Citizens
of the Big Bend joined hundreds of other communities across America in a
nationwide celebration of family volunteering. On November 19th,
VolunteerLEON, along with
Ability1st,
Albertsons,
FASS, Romac
Lumber, and
Volunteer Florida built the last local ramp for
6 Days 6 Ramps
2005. 6 Days 6 Ramps supports the independence of persons with
disabilities. The last ramp site, coincided with National Family
Volunteer Day, a day of service designed to demonstrate the power of
families who choose to volunteer together to support the communities in
which they live and serve.
“In today’s frantic, fast-paced world, Leon County families need
meaningful opportunities to spend time together”, says Jeri Bush,
Director of VolunteerLEON. “Family volunteering works. It connects
families and communities, and it’s easy to get involved. National Family
Volunteer Day shows there’s a role for everyone.” We hope it will be the
first step in engaging families in year-round, community oriented
volunteer projects. For more information on local family volunteer
opportunities visit the
Volunteer Connection and use family appropriate category in the
advanced search.
