VolunteerLEON Youth Corps Excel at Red
Ribbon Knowledge Bowl!
During
a Red Ribbon Knowledge Bowl held on Saturday, March 13, at Perry-Paige
Auditorium, VolunteerLEON Youth Corps members proved who is most
knowledgeable about HIV and AIDS. The Youth Corps won 1st
Place in the Intermediate Division for ages 12-14 and 4th
Place in the Advanced Division for ages 15-18. Both teams received
trophies.
The competition which was sponsored by the
Tallahassee Alumnae and Beta Alpha Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc., allowed youth teams from around Tallahassee to compete
in a Brain Bowl-like competition. Eight youth teams competed during the
Sorority’s Red Ribbon Day, an International Day of Service activity
that focuses on HIV and AIDS.
The team members for the Intermediate Division were
Avionne Moore, Aariel Monroe, Autumn Singletary, and alternate, Lea’
Thompson. The Advanced team members were Landy Hayes, Sophia Ezomoghene,
Akin Ritchie, and alternate Jeff Walker.
One of the Youth Corps focus areas is HIV/AIDS and
through partnerships with other organizations, they are able to learn
about the disease that plagues our nation. In April, Big Bend Cares,
Inc. will be providing peer education training for youth who are
interested making presentations to other youth regarding HIV and AIDS.
