Youth Corps'
One Days Pay Helps Floridians in Need
Thank
you Leon County for making “One Day’s Pay” a success! The Disaster
Comfort Supplies Drive at Winn Dixie, Saturday September 11th
was well attended and VolunteerLEON Youth Corps members received a lot
of donations for the victims of the hurricanes. Donations were delivered
directly to the American Red Cross after the event. We collected
toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, hairbrushes, baby wipes, body
wash, deodorant, and washcloths that filled over 3 shopping carts!
The drive also had drop boxes at four Leon County
Tax Collector Office locations. Youth Corps volunteers were able to
deliver four more full boxes of donated supplies to the American Red
Cross for distribution to the victims of the hurricanes.
Thanks to Winn Dixie for allowing us to hold the
event at their Magnolia Street location and of course we want to thank
the community for so generously donating supplies for the victims of the
hurricanes! We also want to express our gratitude to the six students
from Florida State University’s Service Leadership Seminar who came
out to help the Youth Corps with the donation drive.
The Youth Corps did a wonderful job planning this
event and they are very proud to have taken part in “One Day’s
Pay”- a National Day of Service in honor of the disasters that
occurred on September 11th, 2001. “One Day’s Pay” is a
movement launched in 2003 to establish September 11th as a
national day of kindness, volunteerism and reflection that more than one
million people nation wide participate in. The Youth Corps made this
national day of service a huge success here locally!
