Big Bend Volunteers Show Outpouring of Support - Volunteers Still Needed for Ongoing Relief

ARC Volunteers Unloading a Shelter Kit Big Bend residents have demonstrated overwhelming support by responding to the call for volunteers to help with relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The Capital Area Citizen Corps, a partnership of the Leon County Volunteer Center (VolunteerLEON), Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and Florida State University’s Center for Civic Education and Service, has fulfilled the request for volunteers to travel to Mobile, Ala. over the next three weekends to assist with mass care relief efforts.

All citizens who are interested in providing relief and recovery assistance to Hurricane Katrina victims both locally and in the affected areas can visit  www.VolunteerLEON.org/VolunteerConnection and sign-up to be notified of additional volunteer opportunities. This long-term recovery effort will be ongoing and as additional needs are identified, volunteers from the Big Bend area will be called upon to help our neighbors.

For more information, call VolunteerLEON at 850.921.3015 or email volunteerleon@leoncountyfl.gov.
