Big Bend Volunteers Needed to Respond to Hurricane Katrina

ARC Volunteers Unloading a Shelter KitBig Bend citizens who would like to help victims of Hurricane Katrina can assist by volunteering their time.

The Capital Area Citizen Corps, a partnership of the Leon County Volunteer Center (VolunteerLEON), Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and Florida State University’s Center for Civic Education and Service are recruiting volunteers to travel to Mobile, Alabama over the next three weekends.

Volunteers will be assisting the Red Cross with Mass Care relief efforts which include helping to feed and care for disaster victims.   Individuals who are interested in going must attend a mandatory volunteer orientation held at 6pm on the Thursday preceding the weekend they want to travel.

Mandatory Orientations will be held at the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross (187 Office Plaza Drive) on the following dates:

  • Thursday, September 1st

  • Thursday, September 8th

  • Thursday, September 15th
