10th Annual Leon County Volunteer Firefighter
Fire and Safety Day
The
10th Annual Leon County Volunteer Firefighter Fire and Safety Day was a
huge success, judging by the many citizens of all ages who came out to
thank our local heroes. These local heroes are the men and women who
protect our lives and property- Leon County's Volunteer Firefighters
Leon County Volunteer Fire Departments were represented in full force by
fire trucks, equipment, handouts, and fire and safety demonstrations
(including the "Jaws of Life”). Everywhere you looked, you saw Volunteer
Firefighters teaching children about fire safety and demonstrating the
equipment that they use to save lives. Free hot dogs and drinks and
children's activities were provided to folks throughout the day.
Leon County Chairman, Ed Depuy presented each Volunteer Fire Chief with
a Resolution, declaring, October 6,2007 as Leon County Volunteer Fire
Fighter Day. Chairman Depuy also honored the event's sole sponsor of the
Volunteer Firefighter Fire and Safety Day, Bobby Bacon, president of the
Earl Bacon Agency with a Resolution and a plaque in appreciation for ten
years of unwavering support for our community's heroes. Together,
Chairman Depuy and Bobby Bacon presented the 2007 Volunteer Firefighter
of the Year Award to Jason Causseau, Woodville, Assistant Fire Chief.
Richard Meuth, Woodville Volunteer Chief, in his nomination, described
Jason Causseau as the epitome of a volunteer, who takes time from his
family to help his neighbors. Jason is responsible for the maintenance
of vehicles and training and recruiting of new members. Jason put
together an innovative support services trailer, which provides relief
during emergencies: removing fallen trees, temporary roof repair, and
medical assistance.
Rounding out the event, Chairman Depuy presented Chief Jack Harron, who
stepped down as the Chief of the Miccosukee VFD after 17 years of
exemplary service, with a plaque in appreciation for Chief' Harron's
distinguished leadership and dedication of duty on behalf of the
citizens of Leon County. Chief Harron was the driving force behind the
establishment of this annual event that honors the brave men and women
who protect us 24 hours a day, all on a volunteer basis.
Special thanks to Dave Ramsey, CEO of Sun Trust, for allowing the use of
their parking lot to hold the event and, as always, to our community for
their support of this important event.
