Volunteers
across North Florida and South Georgia participated in Hurricane Zeus,
a simulation on Saturday, May
12, 2007 which tested the ability of the Capital
Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and its partner organizations to
initiate disaster response and recovery activities once a category two
(2) storm has passed through. In an effort to prepare for the 2007
Hurricane Season, VolunteerLEON tested systems and volunteer readiness
pertaining to the Disaster Volunteer Reception Center (VRC). The VRC is
a nationally recognized best practice in managing unaffiliated
volunteers in times of a disaster which was developed locally in 1995.
