Kid's Soiree Event |
|
The
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend will host the 17th Annual Kids Soiree Oct.
20, 2009. The event features performances by many of our talented Club members
and celebrates our most valuable employees and community partners. It is a true
testament to the positive impact organizations like yours enable us to have on
local youth.
You may be aware that current economic conditions have forced us to close some
of our Clubs over the past year. However, we remain committed to securing the
resources necessary to continue serving as many youth as possible.
Proceeds from this annual fundraiser will help fund more than 7,000 children
ages 5 to 18 in four North Florida counties, providing them with academic
assistance, character and leadership development programs and cultural
enrichment activities among other benefits.
Come out and give back to your local Boys & Girls Clubs. From setting up and
assistance with checking in, to greeting and ushering, we would LOVE your help!

Camp Activate is
Back! |
|
…And
better than ever! The 2nd Annual Camp Activate will be held July 20-24 and 27-30
from noon to 5pm! Last year students came to our camp and received Basic HIPP
(Help Increase the Peace Program) training and did a service project sharing
what they learned with elementary aged children at a local community center
earning up to 10 hours of community service. This year the students will still
receive Basic HIPP training and we’re planning a new service project that we
hope will be even more exciting than the last! The camp will be held in the Leon
County Community Room (in the Amtrak station) at 918 Railroad Avenue. There will
be a fee of $25 but there are scholarships available to those who can’t afford
the fee but would still like to participate. Only 25 spots are available to
current and rising high school students. The lead facilitation team members,
Alan Chen, Patrice Lyons, and Akin Ritchie, are all certified HIPP facilitators
and are working hard to make sure that this year’s Camp Activate completely
activates Leon county’s youth!

Thanks
to everyone who has helped us over the years. LCHS truly "runs" on
Volunteer power, and as the seasons change, so do our needs. Right now,
our college student Volunteers are graduating or going home for the
summer - so we'll be looking for hands to take their places. ATTENTION
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS NEEDING BRIGHT FUTURES HOURS - why not spend some
of your summer days with our critters! There is so much to do every
morning between 9:00 and NOON! Feeding and watering the visiting cats,
laundry, cleaning, medicating and the list goes on. We also have plenty
of office type activities you can help with. You can come in the
mornings or afternoons. If you have ever volunteered before, or if
you've been thinking that maybe someday you'd like to help the animals,
now is definitely the time. Please call the office at (850) 224-9193 or
email us at
